Heart Healthy

I recently got the chance to speak for the American Heart & Stroke Association's "Go Red" Luncheon for Ventura County.  I've had quite a few opportunities to tell my story recently, and I love how varied the experiences have been.  This luncheon was one of my favorites.  It was so great, in fact, that the AHA has invited me to speak at their larger luncheon for Los Angeles County on Wednesday, April 25 (for details and to purchase a ticket, click here).  I'd love for you to come and check out this great event!

What's really cool is that I was originally connected to this organization through sharing my story with the MOPS group at Calvary Christian Church in the Palisades.  So wonderful how that chain of events occurs.

Jay escorted me to this event.  We both dressed in celebratory shades of red.  After a heart-healthy salad for lunch, we were treated to a heart-shaped dark chocolate mousse dessert.  A well-known dietician and heart specialist spoke.  It was a little ironic that I finished off several people's chocolate hearts during the dietician's talk, but they were delish!

I was the "passion speaker" for the event, meaning that my story was designed to put a face and a name to the idea of stroke, making it more than just a statistic.

I loved being able to share my story, as well as my hope, while at the same time raising money for a wonderful cause.  Heart disease and stroke are some of the top killers of women today, so it is imperative that we all understand what we are up against and the best ways to prevent them both.

It was a lovely event for a really great organization.  I even donned a special red boa during part of my speech in celebration.

P.S. -- Thank you so much for supporting the "giveaway" to the Adventure Project this past Thursday.  I met my goal thanks to all of your generosity, and more importantly, 2 mechanics will be trained and 1,000 wells will be maintained giving clean water to 10,000 people in India as a result of our efforts!! 

It is awe-inspiring for me to be a small piece of a puzzle, like this project, because it reminds me that one random girl, who suffered a stroke in California, could help direct a few people from all over the place to make a big difference in India or Haiti or wherever.  We are so blessed to get to be a blessing in the lives of others!
